What My Clothes Reveal About Me
Not too many people know this about me, okay no one does, but I have my own clothing code that’s synched with my moods. I can be so quiet that people are forever trying to “read me”, by looking at my face. That’s kind of sad because I have a natural poker face, you’ll get nothing there….Most times I’m not sad, I’m just on standby, like a computer, waiting to be aroused. Until then, I’m saving energy.
Anywho, I thought I would put together these referral sheets for those who want to read me like a book (I’ll .PDF them later, you can click the pictures for a bigger view). If you want to know how I’m doing, don’t read my face, look at my outfit. Let’s look below….

If I’m wearing a suit, pant or dress, I’m feeling pretty confident this day. About what I don’t know, but I probably believe I can fly, or at least walk on water. I’m in a great mood, approachable, I’m serious but playful, I’m on top of stuff, organized and willing to help with whatever. Mood: team player.

Approachable. I’m in a great mood, more relaxed, wearing loafers and not too worried about deadlines. I probably lost a few pounds if my shirt is tucked in and my belt is tight. I’m feeling very Ann Taylorish on a Target budget. I’m flexible and ready for anything. Throw on a blazer and I’m good to go, anywhere. Mood: Pleasant.

This last outfit is what I looked like yesterday, crap. This means I am not in a good mood, the socks are a big indication that something is wrong. The high water pants mean I’ve gained a few pounds. I hate to see ankles, I love long pants. I’m probably retaining water and can no longer wear my pumps because my feet are swollen. I have on shoes that look like something Herman Munster would wear to keep from pinching my toes. I’m not interested in talking to you, helping you with anything and no matter how cute you are or how much I love you, I will bite. My hair is usually a mess too, I feel rushed and unorganized, so I throw on anything and think you should just be glad I showed up. Approach with caution until I comb my hair and put on some decent clothes! Mood: Get the heck away from me and chances are I’m hiding something behind my back to throw at someone, see above pic.
I don’t know what I’m wearing tomorrow and I know, my drawing sucks.

How funny! LOL! I think sometimes you can tell my mood from my clothes, but not always. However, if I’m looking messy-casual but coordinated, in tidy jeans, layers and lots of thong-and-silver jewellery, I’m usually feeling pretty good.
May you return to ‘approachable’ status soon!

Now that’s a “blog” – such originality!! – but certainly on point my dear!! – as for me…no such thing… my wardrobe is not what it use to be…now its just “whatever” i can put on and feel “human”. But in the end, clothes can make you look and feel special!! Better then some men!

Actually, it’s a good idea to have a way to communicate clearly to people how you’re feeling on a particular day. I guess that last outfit basically says: if I snap at you, don’t take it personally, it’s not about you, I was already in a bad mood when you got here. I need an outfit like that

Okay wait. First of all , your drawings are FABULOUS. F*cking Fabulous.
Second of all, this post was HYSTERICAL.
The Fugitive hand made me spit coffee all over my key board…be thankful I am using my office computer and not my MAC right now!!!
3rd: My clothes reflect my mood as well. Mostly I rock sweat pants and pajamas as my “I give up” statement to the world! Or I am dressed as if I am about to partcipate in some sort of athletic event. Because my life is a sport.
But, in the office I am forced to wear clothes that I hate so I do my best to be comfortable.
I need to get a “do not ask me stupid questions” outfit for co-workers that cant read the expression on my face while they are talking to me.

*LOL!* Apologies, but the frown in the last picture is hysterical! I like the info on how your manner of dress reflects your mood, though. Interesting! Left to my own devices I always dress VERY casually (& if I’m painting I might not even get out of my nightgown, which can double as a smock of sorts.) On occassions where I do dress up, however, I find it can affect my self-image to some extent. The outside does seem to affect the inside. A bit opposite of your point, but I’m just saying…

Meleah, ROFL, thanks. I looked at several clothing websites for a model and for a minute I wanted to buy the clothes I was looking at. My kid wanted to know what I was doing with her colored pencils and I was like, mommy was coloring last night baby (I’m too old for this, lol). I showed her my blog and she fell out on the floor laughing. I can’t draw hands, but that hand does remind me of the guy from the fugitive. If I wore sweatpants outside the house, that would be my meaning: I give up, lol. We’ll have to come up with a “don’t ask me stupid questions” outfit. How about PJ’s?

Love love love this! It’s true for me, too. But in my case, it’s more of a self-fulfilling prophecy. If I wear something I feel good in, I become confident and open. If I end up not digging my outfit, I become more reserved and irritable. Clearly, I need to work on this…

I think your “crappy/approach with caution” is my “comfy/go ahead” outfit — minus the Herman Munster shoes. I admit: I’m pretty slobby and usually will sacrifice looking good for feeling comfortable.
I could probably use a makeover…

Corrina, yep! It’s true, at least for me. That clown looking picture is a bit scary now that I look at it.
Confused, I’ve been there. You are not alone.
JD, yeah I try to cover it or stay seated when I look messed up. I need a make over too.
Hunter, don’t give me any ideas. Visual aids are very effective though…more like I can show you better than I can tell you.

Great to know I’m not the only one doing this. I do the same thing – and maybe I should make my friends aware of it, they don’t seem to get the point of my father’s oversize sweaters on me. Or my sneakers that are two sizes too big…it means you need to run!

I just love this post of yours! I too am one who dresses according to mood, kind of like George from Seinfeld in a very hilarious episode, although still very long ago still very funny to me. I like your first outfit best and you are a wonderful sketcher. Looking forward to reading more!
