Ring Me Up!

store cards

Do you recognize these tags? I have so many of them, about 15, on my key ring, that my keys are in the way. The bigger ones I have to keep in my wallet.

I hate going into a store looking for a particular one because some are facing in the wrong direction and under pressure to keep the line moving, all of a sudden I can’t find it. Sometimes I just hand my keys to the cashier and ask if they can find the right one. Other times, I try to hold that particular tag between my thumb and index finger to show them I’m ready.

I’m afraid not to add one on my key ring because I don’t want to miss out on something, like a sale or .10 cents off my total bill. I know if I use my little Shop-Rite tag all year long, at the end of the year I qualify for a free turkey I will not eat. Just think, without these tags, I will never be able to look at my receipt and see how much I saved.

A few weeks ago, I thought I lost my car keys. You know what flashed before my eyes? These tags! Some of them I can’t replace and I don’t want to lose whatever I’ve accumulated.

I haven’t tried this service yet, Just One Club Card, but it allows you to have 8 of your cards on one bar code. I am going to give it a try and I’ll report back!

How many do you have on your key ring?

Just one, and it’s falling apart at the seams. I used to have another one, but it cracked in half and I never replaced it because I never seemed to realize much savings with it (Wegmans store).

Yeah I have had some to split too, but wow, just one? One lady was complaining in the store about her tag, she said,”I keep giving you this tag, but I never see any savings.”

The tags are apart of a government tracking program.

If you were REALLY like my husband (see 7 weird things about me), you would DREAM of having some of these tags in the wrong direction. Everytime I get a new one, I purposely put in on my keychain backwards and he changes it. I’m going to try the Just One Club Card just so I have a back-up if I loose my keys. Thanks for that info!

I have over 10 of them on my keyring… however, I keep them on my spare keyring on the bottom of my purse so I avoid having to see them or go crazy.

So Monique you feel my aggravation then? I took mine off the current ring to move them on to something bigger. Of course, I hate to leave home without them.

Ironically, these shopping club cards were created so that your purchases can be tracked & the prices on the most popular items can be raised. As a result, you’re ultimately paying more, not saving money, as the front line workers will tell you. Of course, if you don’t have the card you’re paying more, too, so they get you either way. Regardless, I don’t “do” shopping club cards (& I conduct business primarily with small, local businesses, which makes life easier & cheaper.)

I absolutely feel your aggravation… lol.

I took mine out of my purse once and felt naked, so back in they went. :(

    Hey Lana

You have a good point there, I never thought about it that way. Thanks for Thinking Out Loud and sharing that with us. Hmmm?

    What’s up Monique..that’s why I don’t change bags, scared I’ll forget something.

I always feel like a janitor when I pull my keys out with all those little tags on them. But, hey, I’m cheap, so I have a billion of those little things. Save 3 cents on gas here, join the reward club here, library, etc.

Thanks, and your post made me laugh…and gave me an idea for a future post for me!

    Hey Cheapest Man

Nice to see you here. Some of the little tags do help and some are just a tracking device, but I’m not getting rid of not one of them. Well except Blockbuster, that’s gone!

I look forward to your future post!

    Hi Judi
I think the ones for the supermarket are pretty good, the rest are probably just for tracking your purchases and then marketing to you. I just got coupons from Petco for my hamster…they know I have a hamster because they look at my purchases from that card, I’m sure. Thanks for stopping by….
