My First Time

starbucksGuess what? I’ve never been to Starbucks. I always feel like I’m the last to get on board, but I’m thinking, maybe the thought of a $4 cup of coffee (or whatever) was so traumatic for me, in my mind I blocked out their very existence. People seem to love this stuff! I know people who go there everyday and rave about their wonderful beverages; I just paid a guy for a job he did for me by refilling his Starbucks card! (Hi, J.) For a million dollars I could not tell you where to even find a Starbucks, before today.

SBSo for a $4 beverage, I’m thinking it’s prom night and I need to dress up for the occasion. I went with a friend and of course we when we got there, it was nothing like I imagined. There were no people sitting at folding tables with credit applications for us to fill out so that we’d be able to afford the coffee. I could not find one masseuse to massage my shoulders while I waited in line. No one walked around with free samples on a platter and yes, I did ask….just a friendly man behind the counter making conversation and overpriced beverages.

Since it was my first time there, I asked the man behind the counter what he recommended, he asked me about my tastes and I told him I was a light and sweet kinda gal. He said the white chocolate mocha espresso would be perfect for me! Wrong! It was nasty for me! My first thought was: that’s it! It’s not even good! With all the hype, fan fare and anticipation all I have is an attitude and unsatisfied taste buds. Maybe I expected too much, but I had people building me up on this “must-have” beverage and experience.

Oh well, by now the espresso is in the sewer system and I have nothing to show for it, but an empty wallet and a bunch of pimped out memories that I’ll recall while sitting at my desk drinking a milky way coffee from Dunkin Donuts.

I can satisfy myself at home and for cheap too! Starbucks, you’re not all that!

Are you a Starbucksaholic, what’s your pleasure?

Every now and then the urge will hit, and I will head over to Starbucks and get a $15 Venti Mocha Latte. After adding about 20+ packets of sugar to make it drinkable for me… and I realize I could have done the same thing at home for much cheaper.

The last time I went was during that Friday after Thanksgiving shopping craze and I thought I would try something different so I had their Hot Chocolate. I figured there was no way they would mess up hot chocolate. Boy was I wrong. I ended up tossing it in the trash and grabbing a cup from 7/11.

yes, I love starbucks (hanging my head in shame) but the saddest part is that I don’t even like (or get) flavored coffee….starbucks does GREAT “st black, please, plain coffee”…yeah, it’s $1.50……….but I only get it once in a while and I’ve wasted a buck and a half on stupider stuff than good coffee

Hey Monique, tell me about it! I can make a great cup of hot chocolate with my Swiss Miss packets. When I feel like throwing away $5, I’ll roll down my car window and fling one out….otherwise SB can forget it.

    Hey Nameless

Well no need to hang your head in shame, as long as you like it and 1.50 is not that much for coffee…I just thought this espresso was going to knock my socks off and it didn’t. I’ve had better for less.

I love Starbucks – why? Because it reminds me of the life I miss (the US), my brother. These are my favorites, Caramel Frappuccino, Taz Chai tea latte, Caramel Macchiato with extra caramel, and then some of their seasonal drinks, Blackberry Green tea frappuccino and, i don’t know if they still sell this one since it’s not in New Zealand – a shot of some very chocolatey hot drink – I think it was melted chocolate. When I’m indecisive I always go with the tea. I’m sounding like a Starbucks addict. I think it’s for some, and not for some.

I miss Tim Hortons–best coffee in Canada (ask any Canadian,) & resonably priced. Never been to Starbucks as a matter of principle. I’m also probably the last person in the US who doesn’t have a cell phone (& refuses to get one.)

Oh Tondy, say it isn’t so. I tried the Caramel Macchi-no no and it was nasty too. Right now I’m sipping on a Milky Way Hot Chocolate from Dunkin D and its heavenly. Better than anything.

Hey Lana, I know a canadian and I will ask him to see if he has any reaction. You’re not missing anything at SB. I actually know someone else who doesn’t have a cell phone. My phone only rings and I really use it only when I have to. I hate the phone.

I never understood the fascination with Starbucks..put all the whipped cream and bubbles on it you want it’s way over priced and the coffee ain’t that good..I can think of 25 truckstops that have better coffee off the top of my head..

You tried a Caramel Macchiata? When?

    You gave it to me!

Retraction: my friend informs me that I had a nasty caramel latte instead and not the other nasty drink (caramel machin-no).

To be very honest, I think Starbucks or SBX sucks. But I still go some mornings just cuz they are the only place here with free internet access. :-) But if I was in the States with so many other options for coffee, I’d not ever step into SBX.

I think I have found my cosmic caffeine twin in you. I go to Starbucks perhaps once a year, like the prom, and I feel I have to save up my money and enjoy every single sip of that Frappuccino. Since it cost an arm and a leg.

Exactly! Are you saying you actually go back to Starbucks? :)

I’m done with them, they would have to pay me to drink that stuff. I haven’t tried the Frappuccino and probably never will. Starbucks and me just don’t mix.

Go back, get a mocha frappuccino (like a milkshake). Or the vanilla latte (hot).

A massage in line would be nice.

Jorge, I don’t think it really matters what SB gives me, unless it’s my money back, they will always be nasty to me.
    ;)

Yeah a massage would be great, they need a suggestion box.
