Houston, We May Still Have A Problem?
So what happened? Monday, I went to Comcast, exchanged the modem and when I got home, I connected the modem and still had no internet service. My worse nightmare is to have tech support come in and the problem is a unplugged cord. Oh no, they will not walk in and plug in a dangling cord and write “idiot” on my work order and then have me sign it.
I took all the plugs out and put them back, making sure each one was secure, rebooted each time, I reinstalled my router and after several attempts, it was working. Confident it was fixed, by my own hands (there’s the problem) I canceled my appointment. Dumb! When I got home last night, my connection was gone and the red X was back, temporarily. I may have to schedule another appointment, but for now, I’m riding this connection because I need it real bad.
While my connection was out I was able to get something done I have been putting off. Yes, I’m brain damaged because of technology. It took me forever to remember the 800 number for free 411 service (800-FREE-411)?? Then I remembered how to work a phone book. I also realized that I do not need to check my email everyday, nobody cares. I deleted more stuff than I read.
I also came up with a “We Care Emergency Package” for ISPs and the clients who rely on them for service. Here are some of the perks that come with the package:
- We will be invited to sit on the board to discuss why internet users should be serviced before cable viewers. TV watchers can pop in a DVD and still live. If the internet goes out, we wither away.
- A promise to keep excellent customer notes on our usage. If the internet goes out, bloggers and internet junkies are to be immediately picked up, carried out on a gurney and transported (in this thing) to the nearest Wi-Fi center. Coffee and donuts will be provided.
- 2 sessions of professional counseling for any trauma experienced from the outage.
- An email address and cell number of a customer care person.
- Free cable and internet service for 6 months.
I think this package is marketable. Now that I have my connection back, for now, I’m going to step away from my blog and see what you guys are up to. I have way too many links in this post, sorry.

Gads…sorry hon! Hope the connection holds up & you don’t need another appointment. I would say this, though; NEVER get satellite internet if you’re concerned about connection issues. Every time a single drop of rain considers congealing in the sky our ‘net goes out. I’m probably switching to BellSouth high speed as soon as they get to our uber-rural area (probably in August.)

Oh My,
I did notice you had a comment from someone at Comcast on your last post. Did contacting them help at all?
I would hate to have my internet connection do down. I don’t know what I’d do. Scream real loud, I guess.

Other than that I’m all for it. Shoot… I know I have had trouble wiring my home. One minute it was working and then the next… I’m sitting there SMH trying to figure out what happen.

You’ve stayed pretty damn composed, I’d be cursing and swinging a club around if I’d been without an internet connection this long!! I’m pissed off just reading about your issues. My son lives in Houston and is with Comcast, I’ll email him and ask if he’s had this kind of issue and if so how he addressed it. I know he said that their Customer Service is a joke.
Here’s to hoping you are magically reconnected to a fast hook-up.!!!

Natural, I had internet issues this week also. On Monday, the connection was real slow all day. At first I thought it was something on the phone company’s end. Then I decided to finally call about it. After walking me through unplugging the router and modem and plugging them back in – twa lah, there was speed. After that, I thought, “well, I should have tried that before.” I’ll know for next time. A messed up internet can really change your day! I’ve learned to make the best of it.

Ok, you need to scope out your hood for some hot spots, Public Libraries usually have wireless connection,so that when something like this happen you at least have a back-up plan.

Well day two (today) Lana and it’s okay, my fingers are crossed. Ooh, say no more, I would not be able to handle outages like that.
Barbara, I haven’t sent them an email yet, but will do so today. It seems to be working again and besides a trip out here, I don’t think they could tell me what to do over the phone that I have not already been through. That bus should be on stand-by. Scoop us up, take us away until things are right again. I could market that package.
Vered, it’s true. There was nothing in my inbox that was urgent. Technology breaks are good, but not the pull the rug from under my feet kind. I rather decide when I’m going to pull the plug. I was working on something too, good thing it wasn’t for a client.
Sandy, I know. I might try disconnecting for a day, can’t go any longer than that, right now.
Urban Thought, I’m sure that can be worked in the package. Yep one minute connected, the next minute disconnected.
Marelisa, I guess I am, now I’m just backed up. You get used to the convenience.
Mamaflo, stuff happens, I understand. I just want it fixed immediately.
Jennifer, I wonder if we need to disconnect occasionally just to give the modem a break. That seems to help, as long as your modem is working. Maybe it’s backed up.

I’m thinking of getting a wireless USB modem from Verizon or Sprint so I ALWAYS have a connection. It’s tough when your livelihood depends on being connected to the internet.

As a part time Geek Squad agent (hey, we’re in a recession…gotta pay the bills) I hate Comcast more than any other corporation at the moment. I’m not surprised at your lack of service as it is apparently a nationwide trend.
But let’s let the past be the past and move forward. You’ve got a working connection, so all is good.
Also I didn’t notice that you had a lot of links in your post until you mentioned it. The light blue background of the top part of your website hides your hyperlinks. Just thought you might like to know.

well Meleah, I had to make a service call. This connection keeps blacking out on me, but I have one now, so I’m making my blog rounds. LOL at the school bus, you appreciate my twisted humor, but seriously, they need to think about my package. I need to go do my water change on the tank later today and buy some plastic plants. YUK. Hate plastic.
TOPolk, you work for Geek Squad, cool. I know were in something cause all my cash is gone like the wind. It’s in the darn gas tank and at ShopRite. Gonna have to get my cup and glasses and start begging again. Yeah the links are kind of hard to see if you don’t know. Sometimes I make them darker or a different color, but I was just too lazy, thanks for telling me. I might change the CSS, so much to do, so little internet connection.

That is a brilliant Emergency Care Package. I get downright cranky when I can’t connect when I want to. Generally it involves rebooting the modem. When the Urbane Lion is home, I get to yell into his study (I work the kitchen) “ARGGGGHHHHH…I have no internet” and the sweet man stops what he is doing, unplugs and replugs the modem. When I am home alone, I have actually have to do this!!! Can you imagine?! Technology should simply work, period end of discussion.

Ugh. I’ve had to sign the “Idiot” work order more than once. AND I’ve canceled the appointment when I thought everything was OK. I love your emergency package, especially the part about coffee and donuts.

I get frantic if the Internet connection goes out, only to find some idiot has kicked the plug to the router out of the outlet…grr…
as for the “transportation”, that was absolutely hilarious I was around people when I saw that and everyone turned to see what on earth I was guffawing about…LOL!

Oh hey JD, I must have overlooked your comment, sorry. I thought my connection was fixed. Not! I need that emergency package right now, coffee, donuts and the other bottle that’s underneath the seat.

I don’t know what the flipping problem is, really, I don’t. I will see how fast Verizon can get here. This is making me angry, I feel like the hulk right now.

We have time warner here and they drive me crazy. I finally got rid of them and now just have netflixs instead of cable. Then for the internet I just have a wireless card on my computer. Its cheaper and I dont have to deal with there nonsense.

I think I could survive on the internet alone, I watch very little tv myself, I do love my basketball games and a few tv shows….it’s probably a convenience, cable that is. Thanks for the visit.
